ceramiKam 1000 is a film camera entirety made in fired ceramic. its inner mechanisms are also hand made, one by one. its not a pin hole camera, it carries a lens in its aperture allowing it to focus. Its composed by three ceramic parts made to fit in order to isolate exterior light. since ceramic shrinks once you fire it and then shrinks again once you glaze it, this had to be carefully contemplated (endless sand dusting sessions ) in order to fit a 36mm film. Some how it all meticulously worked out. It works !
its a perfect experimental camera and an object of affection since it was done at Skowhegan School of Painting during the summer of 2026 under the kind supervision and help from Grace Sachi Troxell, Sahar Khoury, Eva Aguero, Christina Umaña Duran, Nasser Alzayani and Jose Mesias. Film negatives develop by Olvia Raevey.
the camera is like a sandwich, its three ceramic parts are squished together with rubber foam that prevents light from coming inside the film. Its a great camera to experiment with night shots and exposure. the camera shutter is a cork, that you manually open and close depending on the amount of exposure you need. then, you manually roll the film to start a fresh shot. It comes with three color filters, ideal for day shots and ghost capturing. a bigger cork shutter is ideal to experiment with the color filters and so on. the camera also includes a film rewind accessory and a glow in the dark neck strap. Its results are as experimental as the camera itself.
