“Oráculo del culo del mundo” is a unique collaboration between Eduardo Navarro and Patricia Domínguez. The video captures a syfy – difficult to believe it’s real – Mad Max night club looking oil refinery located in the city Con Con, right by the coast line in Chile. Here oil cargo ships discharge their crude oil from the sea into the land with pipelines that pierce the beach. The post apocalyptic oil refinery spreads like a self proclaimed city across the landscape of the 3rd region of Chile. While swallowing air and exhaling a thick and toxic oil like white-cloud, it seams to self predict its own future like a anthropomorphic annus . These “sacrificial areas” as they are formally known, explore: the thin line between death-tolerance by the near by communities, post dictatorship neo-liberalism and everyday life surrealism in a landscape swallowed by dystopias that can only pray to be transformed by art. The 5 minute video is a attempt to transmute the gloom-hellish industrial architecture of the oil refinery and open a hidden metaphysical door into a cosmic cathedral entangled to a contemplative beyond-earth truth that both artists force themselves to find, even in the darkest places, where life fades into oblivion. “Oráculo del culo del mundo” is an inspired word play. As it is popularly said, Argentina and Chile are the Culo of the word.
